Each and every pen is a work of art and no two pens will look exactly the same. The pictures in this catalogue are representative and by no means definitive.

Ink Cartridge:

Twist pens (ball point pens) seldom leak and are generally safe to carry in a pocket. With care, Rollerball, and Fountain Pens can be used and transported, worry free.

However, it is very important that a Rollerball or Fountain Pen cap remains secure and the tip remains pointed upward to avoid le aks.

NOTE: When traveling overseas or on any air flight, it is recommended that the cartridge be removed and placed in a plastic bag.

Ink Cartridge Care:

Your twist cartridge (Parker style) or Rollerball (Schmidt cartridge) should work with little effort if you follow a few simple guidelines.

There will be a wax ball on the end of your cartridge when you receive your pen. Simply push it against a sheet of paper until it is removed from the writing tip. The pen should then work without problem.

If your Caribou Pen is not used for some time, the ink can clog. Use a lighter and heat the tip up, and the ink will begin flowing freely once again. It is best to do this with the cartridge removed from the pen.

While many prefer the smooth and free flowing experience of a Rollerball pen, this type cartridge uses ink faster than a twist cartridge, bear this in mind.

Please follow enclosed directions for Fountain Pens.

Pen Care:

There is really little you need to do. If you keep the pen in the pouch it comes in, it will be less likely to get scuffed or scratched. However, if you use a soft cloth, such as a lens cloth, and a little furniture polish, you can often clean up any scuffs that occur over the years. Mostly, keep your Caribou Pen dry (although our pens usually bounce back from complete immersion) do not use your Caribou Pen as a tool, do not get corrosive chemicals or abrasive materials near or on it – treat your pen with care. If you do this, it will last you a very long time.

If the pen is immersed:
Open the pen, remove the cartridge and dry it out. Then use a little WD40, wipe off any excess, and you should be back to a smooth running operation.

We have dropped, soaked, accidentally swam with, flown around the world with, and misused and abused our Caribou Pens in about everyway you can misuse them. Most of these pens are still with us after even fifteen years of service. The ones that are not still with us, we gave as gifts to friends. These are very substantial, durable, functional pieces of art that get better with time.
